WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced Target Alpena Development Corporation received a $99,000 grant that will create 17 jobs in the community. The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Business Enterprise Grant program.
“Target Alpena continues to play an important role in strengthening local businesses and creating jobs in the Alpena community,” Stupak said. “Investing in small businesses in rural areas across Northern Michigan is critical to growing the state’s economy. This grant will create jobs and provide an economic boost to Alpena and the surrounding areas.”
Target Alpena will use the grant to capitalize a revolving loan fund, allowing the organization to expand its work throughout Alpena and create 17 new jobs.
Through continued support from grants like this, Target Alpena has maintained a Revolving Loan Program and a Micro Revolving Loan Program, which have helped to grow small businesses. These programs have resulted in the direct job creation and retention of more than 300 jobs in the Alpena area.
The Rural Business Enterprise Grant program provides grants for rural projects that finance and facilitate development of small and emerging rural businesses help fund distance learning networks, and help fund employment related adult education programs.
