WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced Iron River Township in Iron County has received a loan for $1,170,000 and a grant for $2,830,000 to make improvements to the community’s water system.  The funding is being provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development program.

“This significant investment will allow Iron River Township to improve its water system to better serve households and businesses throughout the community,” Stupak said.  “Grants and loans from the USDA are critical to providing rural areas across Northern Michigan with the funds necessary to upgrade and expand necessary services such as water and waste disposal.”

Iron River Township will use the funds to replace 26,900 feet of water main, rehabilitate three water storage tanks and install water meters.
