WASHINGTON – Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced today that by working with the NFL Network and broadcasters in Green Bay he has been able to ensure that Thursday’s Green Bay Packers game will air on WJMN-TV, making the game available through much of the Upper Peninsula (U.P.).
“I spoke with executives at the NFL and encouraged them to work closely with the owners of WFRV/WJMN so that Thursday’s Green Bay versus Dallas game will be available in the U.P.,” Stupak said. “I commend the NFL Network and WFRV/WJMN for coming to this agreement.”
Earlier in the week, it had been reported that viewers in the Upper Peninsula would not be able to view the game as it was being “blacked out” from WJMN-TV, in Escanaba. However, Stupak intervened and the game will be available on WJMN and throughout much of the U.P.
“I cannot dictate to these private companies what programming to carry or what agreements to reach,” Stupak said. “However, I was pleased that, in this instance, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell cooperated so that U.P. television viewers, my constituents, can enjoy Thursday’s Green Bay versus Dallas game.”
The game will be broadcast over-the-air on WJMN-TV, channel 3. The game will also be available for cable viewers on cable systems that carry WJMN-TV. Stupak heard from many of his constituents immediately after the NFL Network advised that WFRV, in Green Bay, would not be allowed to relay the game to its Escanaba transmitter, WJMN-TV.
