In Newark, low-income minority children and families are disproportionately represented within the child welfare system and poverty, educational barriers, a shortage of healthcare resources, and overcrowded living conditions exacerbate the complexities of child maltreatment. Wynona’s House, located in downtown Newark, is a safe haven for the children and families of Essex County who have been victims of child sexual and/or physical abuse. Funding would support the creation of developmentally and culturally competent psychotherapeutic approaches to improve access to services, engagement, compliance, and outcomes for abused children. |
