Appropriations Requests

This project will create a Resource Center for Small, Women and Minority Owned Businesses in Essex County.that will provide a resource library.  The Center will also offer 6 seminars yearly with volunteers from SCORE, representatives of the County Economic Development Corp. and other professionals who will address all the essentials of growing a business.

It is often cited that small businesses employ the majority of the workforce in the United States.   Nevertheless, the rate of small business failure is very high.  In this current economic downturn, small businesses especially need assistance to stay afloat and growing.  It is in the interest of the nation to prevent failure for these businesses and the resulting higher unemployment and other negative economic reverberations.  Therefore it is critical that small and start up businesses know how to register as a SWMBE and how to respond to government and other Requests for Proposals, Requests for Qualifications and Bids.  This planned Resource Center will provide the small business owner with professional and technical knowledge and advice on this and a range of business development needs.
