Youth Advocate Program Inc. (YAP) was one of the organizations, early on, to focus efforts on building capacity in communities, to serve and support families and targeted youth that are at highest risk of institutionalization. This project would expand programming in Newark and local vicinities focusing specifically on gang prevention and intervention services. Residents in the area of service will be recruited as direct care advocates supporting and supervising gang-involved youth. The gang prevention component will involve a partnership between staff and program alumni, conducting leadership development retreats and training sessions for at-risk youth and youth.
