Statement on Passage of the Budget Control Act |

|
“With today’s passage of the Budget Control Act, the U.S. House of Representatives has again acted to restore fiscal responsibility in Washington and honor America’s obligations. The legislation we passed today seeks to immediately cut excessive government spending, enact systemic changes that will allow us to control spending in the future, and helps ensure that Washington is held accountable to the American people. Throughout this process, I have sought to move beyond political rhetoric to help enact real solutions to the financial challenges facing America. Families across America have been forced to tighten their belts and learn to do more with less. So should Washington. It is time to balance the books and make government live within its means. It is time to put people before politics. The American people want and deserve nothing less and the consequences of failure would be devastating for America.” |
