Congressman Platts' Statement on the Resignation of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor |
||||
|
"For the past 24 years, our Nation has been blessed by the distinguished service of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the United States Supreme Court. Throughout her tenure, Justice O'Connor was a thoughtful and considerate jurist who epitomized the highest ideals of public service. As the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court, Justice O'Connor has blazed a path of accomplishment that has served as an inspiration to millions. Justice O'Connor has earned the gratitude of the American people and I join them in wishing her and her family the very best in the years to come. As President Bush and the United States Senate move forward on naming a successor, my hope is that the nomination process will emulate the principled, statesmanlike approach that Justice O'Connor brought to the bench. This process should move forward in a timely fashion, culminating in a fair hearing and vote on the Senate floor. The Nation deserves no less."
