Cash for Clunkers Extended

Many Americans see Cash for Clunkers as just another wasteful, big-government program coming out of Washington. I voted against it for that very reason. Despite flaws with the program, more consumers are taking advantage of the rebate than expected, nearly exhausting the original amount of money in the program in only one week. Despite my opposition to both the Cash for Clunkers and the faltering stimulus package, Congress redirected $2 billion from the stimulus to extend the Cash for Clunkers initiative. I supported this transfer of funds because it puts money already appropriated into the hands of consumers who are waiting to purchase new cars instead of using it for questionable “stimulus programs” that would not create economic activity. This will not involve any more deficit spending.
