Tennessee is one of the top five farm-producing states for fresh products like tomatoes and snap beans. Agricultural production generates more than $2.5 billion every year in our state. Small family farms are the backbone of our economy. The last thing we need to do is expand the federal government’s regulatory authority over them.
When the Food Safety Enhancement Act came to the House floor for a vote, I voted against it. Unfortunately, it passed by a vote of 280-150. It’s now up to the Senate to act. I will continue working to protect family farms from unnecessary intrusion by the federal government.
