English Unifies our Nation

February 7, 2008

Making Engligh the official language of the United States is the right thing to do.  All official government business should be conducted in English, including naturalization ceremonies.  Trying to operate a bilingual government could have an adverse effect on the unity of our nation.  Tension arose between Canada's French and Englishspeaking populations several years ago and caused great conflict in that country.

Declaring English as America's official language can help us avoid this problem.  I have co-sponsored H.R. 769, the National Language Act of 2007 to amend our laws and make English the official language of our government. I am also a co-sponsor of the Common Sense English Act which will allow employers to require employees to speak English.
