FISA Reauthorization Needed to Keep Our Nation Safe

October 8, 2009

Our country has not been attacked since September 11, 2001, because our intelligence community has the resources needed to do its job and keep us safe. Three important amendments to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) are set to expire at the end of this year unless Congress reauthorizes them.

The threat we continue to face from radical Islamic jihadists is real. The arrest of alleged al-Qaeda operative, Najibullah Zazi emphasizes the importance of reauthorizing these programs. According to FBI officials, he was in the process of carrying out an attack similar to 9/11. Removing safe guards that have kept us out of harm’s way for the last eight years is a dangerous proposition.
