Members of Congress Who Support Government Run Health Care Should Use It

August 4, 2009
It only makes sense that those in Congress who support turning health care over to the government should live with the very plan they believe is “best” for Americans. H.Res. 615, which I cosponsored, would do just that. Under the resolution, Members of Congress who vote for the establishment of a public, federal government run health insurance option are urged to forgo their right to participate in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) and agree to enroll under that public option.
Judging from what we have seen out of Washington lately, it is unlikely that the Democratic leadership in the House will give serious consideration to input from members outside of their party. As health care reform moves forward, I will push for a patient-centered solution that includes increased access, individual choice and reforms of the health insurance market.
