Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger is a true American hero. His bravery and skill helped save the lives of all 155 people onboard US Airways flight 1549 as it went down shortly after takeoff in New York.

On January 26, 2009, I joined my colleagues in recognizing Sully and the other members of the flight crew by supporting H. Res. 84, a House resolution to honor the heroic actions of the pilot, crew, and rescue teams. This bill passed by a vote of 402-0.

As our nation battles tough economic times, stories like Captain Sully’s remind us of why we are the greatest nation in the world.
