Responsible Americans are tired of seeing their hard-earned tax dollars being handed out to those who have acted irresponsibly. The Troubled Asset Recovery Program was grossly mismanaged and the automakers are back asking for more money because the first bailout did not work. Democrats in Congress passed a so-called ‘stimulus’ bill and the President has proposed a record-breaking $3.6 trillion budget. Spending our way into prosperity is an ill-conceived thought and the wrong approach.
Millions of Americans are struggling to make ends meet and Washington needs to work together to put in place sound economic policies. Rather than raising taxes on families and small businesses, we need to cut taxes. I have introduced the America Working Families Tax Relief Act, H.R. 1805, that would extend the $8,000 home buyer tax credit to anyone buying a home. It also makes permanent the state and local sales tax deduction, the higher education deduction and the mortgage insurance premium deduction.
These are common sense ideas that will allow middle-class Americans to save hundreds of dollars and help move our economy in the right direction. I will continue to fight against excessive spending in Washington and advocate for a more conservative approach to solving our economic problems.
