The threat we face from radical Islamic jihadists is the greatest challenge of our generation. Since 2002, nearly 800 suspected terrorists have been captured and sent to Guantanamo Bay. The majority of these prisoners have been transferred to other detention facilities or released. Only 250 detainees remain in the prison.

 

On Thursday, January 22, 2009 President Obama issued a Presidential directive to close Guantanamo Bay. The important question for most Americans is where these 250 suspected terrorists will be sent. I cosponsored the Keep Terrorists out of America Act to prevent these prisoners from being relocated in our country. My staff and I are following this situation carefully.
