Amount Requested: $1,000,000.00 While African-American men are more likely to die from prostate cancer than other ethnic minorities, they are also less likely to receive definitive treatment when diagnosed with the most aggressive cancers. This request is to utilize the holistic model developed through The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center to reach underserved minority males, specifically African Americans. At M. D. Anderson, the CRMH has developed a model using satellite clinics and mobile units to reach underserved prostate cancer patients, with the goal of promoting prostate cancer awareness, education, and early detection among underserved communities in the Houston area. |
