Congressman Al Green: Working for the People of the Ninth District of Texas

 Fort Bend County

Amount Requested: $2,727,000.00

This is a Regional water and wastewater infrastructure project for Fort Bend County Fresh Water Supply District #1, which is comprised of the City of Arcola and the Fresno community.   It will support the replacement of low quality water from private wells with a comprehensive public water distribution system and replacement of ineffective septic tanks with a comprehensive wastewater collection system. This will in turn permit citizens to have safe and affordable water and wastewater services.  A local/federal funding partnership is helping to provide these services to the people of project area. This low-income, high minority community will undergo an economic rejuvenation upon completion of this project and several federal agencies are prepared to help bring quality, low-income housing to the region once a utility infrastructure is available.  This project will also help the greater Houston area meet subsidence standards by establishing a system that is easily capable of being switched in the future from a ground to a surface water supply. Fully 50% of the annual environmental violations in Fort Bend County will be prevented by completion of this project.
