Amount Requested: $211,000.00

Funding will be used to support Harris County Constable Precinct 7’s “Operation, Compliance, Monitoring, Apprehension and Enforcement Program” to track neighborhood sex offenders located in Precinct 7. These programmatic funds will be used to hire 3 full-time deputies to monitor offenders, develop and maintain a tracking database, conduct educational seminars, file appropriate criminal charges against offenders, and enforce the child zone law.  It is estimated that a large number of sex offenders migrated to Houston, Texas the 4th largest city in the U.S after hurricanes Rita and Katrina.  Many of them settled in Precinct 7, primarily a minority, economically distressed inner city precinct. A goal of the Precinct 7 Sex Offender Program is to decrease the number of sex offenders who are out of compliance and increase sex offender registration to better monitor and track their location in accordance with state law.
