Amount Requested: $1,500,000.00 Rebuilding Together is a non-profit that rehabilitates low-income owner-occupied housing at no cost to the homeowner. The work of Rebuilding Together allows disabled veterans to live safely and comfortably and in many cases provides them with the only way to remain in their own home. The increase in safety for disabled and elderly veterans due to the modifications made by Rebuilding Together results in reduced at-home injuries and ultimately decreases the burden on the overall Veterans Affairs system. FY 2010 funding will support a home rehabilitation and modification project for low-income veterans in Houston and will provide home rehabilitation and ADA modification services for veterans and their families in the Houston metropolitan area in the project’s first year. Using the technical expertise and knowledge gained from their successful home repair and modification work for local Houston veterans, Rebuilding Together Houston is ready to substantially increase the number of veterans served in our area. This project will put emphasis on repairing and retrofitting the homes of low-income homeowners who are serving in the U.S. military or veterans who have been honorably discharged. |
