Amount Requested: $2,600,000.00 The Mickey Leland National Urban Air Toxics Research Center (NUATRC) was authorized in the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments Title III, Sec. 112(p)), to specifically conduct research on the human health effects from exposure to air toxics. Since its inception, the NUATRC has conducted research that has advanced the understanding of air toxics significantly in the Houston region, as well in other parts of the country and has developed new technologies to measure personal exposure to air toxics. FY 10 federal funding will enable the Mickey Leland National Urban Air Toxics Research Center (NUATRC) to accomplish six major objectives that help the Houston region and the nation to better understand how air toxics affect sensitive populations, including minorities and children, in order to take action to address the health concerns that have been raised particularly by residents in the 9th district. |
