Amount Requested: $30,280,000.00 Sims Bayou spans 94 square miles and is managed, designed and built by the HCFCD and the U.S. Corps of Engineers. This project consists of 19.3 miles of channel conveyance improvements that includes a total of 925 acres of right-of-way to be purchased and 20 bridge replacements. It also includes environmental mitigation and environmental quality features, and has a Benefit-to-Cost ratio of 6.5 to 1. This project increases flood protection to a 4% level (25-yr.) under full development. This is a flood damage reduction project wholly within Harris County that uses channelization to significantly reduce flood risks. Flood damage reduction is in the national interest by reducing loss of life, injury and property destruction and reducing emergency and recovery costs. Federal support is necessary because of the large costs associated with completion of the project. For construction of the Sims Bayou Flood Damage Reduction Project, includes $4,080,000 for federal share of recreation plan (City of Houston recreation local sponsor) with the remainder for project construction. |
