Congressman Al Green: Working for the People of the Ninth District of Texas

 Texas Medical Center

Amount Requested: $1,000,000.00

Funding will be used for a subregional transportation study of the area surrounding Texas Medical Center that will include multiple modes of transportation including automobiles and buses, LRT/BRT, commuter rail, bicycle, transit circulators and pedestrian walkways. In 2008, the City of Houston conducted a regional transportation study to develop a blueprint to address the region’s long-term transportation needs.  The results of the study indicate significant transportation improvements will be needed in several parts of the city, including the Texas Medical Center due to the unprecedented growth that is anticipated.  Demands for cost-effective and environmentally-friendly mobility solutions are increasing. In recognizing the mobility concerns for the Houston region, the City of Houston has developed a project development process that will focus on the prioritization process of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP).  To ensure that projects conducted as a part of the CIP provide the best overall mobility solutions for the city and its surrounding ETJ, this study process provides the City of Houston with the level of detail necessary for planning and operation of the Texas Medical Center and its proposed projects.
