South Jersey Priority Projects Request Disclosure

Below is the list of South Jersey projects requested by Congressman LoBiondo. The following projects are listed in alphabetical order:

Fiscal Year 2010 Agriculture Appropriations Bill -

  • Gypsy Moth Pest Management – requested by New Jersey Department of Agriculture (369 S. Warren Street, P.O. Box 330, Trenton, NJ). Project Description:“The gypsy moth is the most destructive forest insect pest to infest New Jersey's forests. Repeated defoliation by the gypsy moth represents a serious threat to New Jersey woodland and shade tree resources. This project will have significant benefits for southern New Jersey by offering cost share funds to local municipalities. The Department's Gypsy Moth Suppression Program is a voluntary cooperative program involving New Jersey municipalities, county agencies, state agencies, and the USDA Forest Service. In order to protect New Jersey's valuable forest resources, the Department conducts aerial defoliation and ground egg mass surveys, monitors the application and evaluates the efficacy of the spray material.”...Funding Requested: $2,000,000
  • The New Jersey Cranberry/Blueberry Disease & Breeding Project – requested by Rutgers University Marucci Center for Blueberry and Cranberry Research and Extension (125A Oswego Road, Chatsworth, New Jersey). Project Description:“Research on breeding and pest management will provide continued support for the 50 million dollar a year industry. Past research has found bacterial anti-adherence mechanisms helping to fight urinary tract infection and dental caries, and other antioxidant properties. A major effort within the breeding program aims to enhance these health beneficial properties.”...Funding Requested: $650,000.
