STATEMENT: LUCAS SUPPORTS AMERICAN TROOPS

Washington, D.C.- "I am sure we will debate the policy issues of the use of American military men and women in Iraq in future weeks, however I stand behind our troops--as I believe all Americans do--whenever their Commander-in-Chief calls them to service.

"It is clear that action against Saddam Hussein is necessary and probably unavoidable. I will vote for a resolution in the House today supporting our troops in the Persian Gulf, and I wish all of our troops involved in carrying out this strike a safe mission and a quick return home. My prayers are with them and their families at this time."
