WATONGA TO RECEIVE $526,000 GRANT INDUSTRIAL GROWTH AHEAD
Washington, D.C.-- Sixth District Congressman Frank Lucas was happy to relay the news to Watonga city leaders this month that they had been awarded $526,000 in economic development grant aid from the federal government.
"This development is fantastic for the city and citizens of Watonga," Lucas said. AThe project will construct water and sewer extensions to help develop an industrial area in Watonga.
"The purpose of the project is to encourage industrial development and growth in the area," Lucas continued. "City leaders have discussed future, including the construction of a private prison, that could result in as many as 280 new jobs in Watonga."
The federal grant comes from the Economic Development Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Watonga Mayor Tony Kohl and Leroy Lage of the Watonga Water and Light System have been leaders in the effort to obtain the federal funding.
"Leroy, Mayor Kohl, and several other community leaders worked diligently with my office since August of 1996 on this project," Lucas said. AIt was this combined persistence that opened the eyes of the Department of Commerce to this meritorious undertaking by the city.
"I wish the City of Watonga the best of luck," Lucas said. "I hope my next visit to Watonga consists of a tour of the project's progress."
