VANCE TO GET OFFICERS/ENLISTED CLUB, TOO LUCAS SAYS
WASHINGTON, D.C. - In addition to the $7.7 million engineering complex recently appropriated and passed by Congress, Vance Air Force Base may be the recipient of $2.7 million dollars for a base officer's enlisted club, according to Sixth District Congressman Frank Lucas.
"I have been informed by the Chairman of the Special Oversight Panel of Morale, Welfare and Recreation that his committee has approved Vance for the construction of an officer's/enlisted club on base," Lucas said.
The new facility will be paid for from non-appropriated funds which are derived from profits from military commissaries and exchanges around the world. The Department of Defense listed the Vance facility as a quality-of-life project worthy of construction.
"I'm delighted my colleagues on this House committee agreed with us as to the merit of this project for Vance," Lucas said. "The Senate must follow suit for this expenditure to become final, and I anticipate no problem there."
The Senate will return to session next week.
Lucas added that since this funding is non-appropriated dollars, it is not subject to a presidential veto.
"Once again, the work of Vance has come under the scrutiny of yet another governmental entity, and has been deemed worthy of further support," Lucas added. "I'm delighted for the young pilots at Vance and their superiors who are most deserving of this facility."
