STATEMENT OF CONGRESSMAN FRANK LUCAS ON THE TERRY NICHOLS VERDICT
CHEYENNE, OK -- "I think for any of us who have followed this case since the morning of April 19, 1995, and particularly for any survivor or victim's loved one, it is an extreme reach to believe that a man who is guilty of conspiring to build a bomb of mass destruction, -- and who helped finance and construct it -- could not ultimately be found guilty of the murders of 168 innocent people just because he did not actually light the deadly fuse.
"But, the jury in Denver conscientiously weighed all of the evidence over the weeks, and arrived at their unique decision.
"We can look ahead to the penalty phase next week, when the judge and jury will hear the impact of Nichols' actions on the lives of those who survived and lost loved ones. I trust justice will be served at that time, and our society will not face the prospect of Terry Nichols walking freely among us ever again.
"I also look forward to the state prosecution as promised by District Attorney Macy for a last, perhaps best, opportunity at justice for Nichols."
