Lynch OxyContin Amendment Approved by House

In response to the growing problem of drug addiction, I filed an amendment to the “Office of National Drug Control Policy Reauthorization Act of 2005” (H.R. 2829) to conduct a study on the addictiveness of prescription drugs like OxyContin and other powerful painkillers.  I am pleased to report that the amendment was approved by the House of Representatives on March 9, 2006 with strong bipartisan support.  The bill will now go to the Senate for approval.  For more information on this amendment, read the full press release on my web site.

Lynch Rail Security Legislation Approved by House

On Thursday, May 25, in a rare show of bipartisanship, the House of Representatives moved to strengthen rail security by passing a major amendment by Rep. Stephen F. Lynch (D-MA), Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ), and Rep. Michael Castle (R-DE) to increase state and local rail security funding. For more information, read the full press release on my web site.

Floor Statement On Lobbying Reform

In the wake of recent lobbying scandals, Republican House members drafted legislation to reform lobbying regulation.  This legislation does not go far enough to address the weaknesses in the current legislation.  For more information, read my floor statement on lobbying reform.

Service Academy Nominations

My office is now accepting applications for service academy nominations. To be eligible for a nomination, you must be a U.S. Citizen and a legal resident of the Massachusetts 9th Congressional District. You must also be at least 17 years and younger than 23 years old on July 1st of the admission year.
