Appropriations Requests
Naval Air Station (NAS) Atlanta ($4,665,000). I would ban earmarks as we know them, but as long as these earmarks are available, I'm going to apply for them in an effort to pursue federal funding opportunities for my district. For defense projects in the current earmarking system, the individual projects I sponsor have the support of our military and further our national security. These projects are vetted by the professional staff on the House Armed Services and House Appropriations Committees during the appropriations process. I only request funds for projects authorized by law for federal funding and do not do so for private parties or entities. This project will provide funds to the Georgia Army Guard for facilities infrastructure required to support the Georgia Guard soldiers and airmen moving onto NAS as well as those Naval and Marine Corps personnel who will be tenants until their new BRAC buildings are completed and they relocate sometime in CY 2010. This is a valuable use of taxpayer funds because it will insure that the Georgia Guard will continue to provide command guidance to all Georgia Guardsman without interruption in the support of their federal and state missions. Beneficiary: Naval Air Station Atlanta, 1000 Halsey Avenue, Marietta, GA 30060.
