  • Tours are conducted from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Saturday. Same-day tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Capitol Guide Service kiosk located near the intersection of First Street and Independence Ave, SW (across from the U.S. Botanical Gardens). Recorded information on tours is available by calling (202) 225-6827. Please call this number for the most up-to-date security and access information.
  • Except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, public tours of the Capitol will be available on federal holidays.
  • Gallery Passes are still available to the public, but only on days that the House is in session. Please contact our Washington, D.C. office at least 24 hours in advance of the date you would like to visit the Capitol to arrange to pick up Gallery Passes.
  • Metro Directions: take either the Blue or Orange Line to the Capitol South stop. Walk one block up First Street to Independence Avenue. You may also take the Red Line to Union Station. Walk about four blocks south on North Capitol Street (you will be able to see the Rotunda from Union Station).

  • White House congressional tours are limited to parties of 10 or more. Tour requests may be submitted up to 6 months in advance. Please contact our Washington, D.C. office at (202) 225-6531 to receive the most up-to-date information on tours.
  • The White House Visitor’s Center is still open to the public seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

  • Metro Directions: the closest stations to the White House are Federal Triangle (Orange and Blue Lines), Metro Center (Orange, Blue and Red lines) and McPherson Square (Orange and Blue lines).

The Supreme Court - www.supremecourtus.gov

  • The Supreme Court is open Monday - Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Exhibits and a theater which shows a short film about the court are located on the ground floor and are open during this time.
  • Lectures are given in the Courtroom every hour on the half-hour when the Court is not sitting. They usually begin around 9:30 a.m. and end around 3:30 p.m.
  • Please note that business of the court and inclement weather may affect access to the building. You may call the Visitor Information line at (202) 479-3211 to receive updated information on access to the Court.
  • Metro Directions: take either the Blue or Orange Lines to Capitol South. Walk two blocks north on First Street. You may also take the Red Line to Union Station and
    walk south on North Capitol Street, then walk one block east on Constitution, then walk ½ block south on First Street. The Court is located at One First Street, NE, on the corner of First Street and Maryland Avenue.

Smithsonian Museums - www.si.edu

  • Most Smithsonian museums are open from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and are free to the public. Extended summer hours are determined on an annual basis.
  • From April 6 - October 25, the National Zoo grounds are open from 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. The animal exhibits are open from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Due to large numbers of school groups that visit the Zoo between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., it is recommended that you visit between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. or anytime after 2:00 p.m. for a more relaxing experience. Animals are more active during this time period and lines to see the giant pandas and elephants are usually much shorter.
  • Individual museums offer tours. Please contact individual museums for tour schedules.

  • Nine of the museums are located on the National Mall between the Capitol and the Washington Monument. Visitors may ride Metro on the Orange or Blue lines to the Smithsonian or Federal Triangle stop. The National Zoo is located on the Red Line between the Woodley Park/Zoo/Adams Morgan Stop and the Cleveland Park stop. The walk from the Woodley Park stop is uphill, while the walk from the Cleveland Park stop is downhill.

Arlington Cemetery - www.arlingtoncemetery.org

  • The Cemetery is open from 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. from April 1- September 30.
  • The guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider changes every half-hour on the hour and half-hour from opening to closing, April 1 - September 30.

  • Metro Directions: Take the Blue Line to the Arlington Cemetery stop. Ample paid parking is also available. As of February 2002, parking rates were $1.25/hour for the first three hours and $2.00/hour for each subsequent hour.

Mount Vernon - www.mountvernon.org

  • Mount Vernon is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. from April - September.

  • Mount Vernon is accessible by car only. Please call Mount Vernon or visit their web site for directions that suit you. You may also travel to Mount Vernon via TourMobile.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing - www.bep.treas.gov

  • Effective Thursday, May 22, 2003, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing's General Public Tour and Visitor's Center will be closed until further notice. Only scheduled VIP/Congressional tours and scheduled School Groups will be permitted access to the Bureau for both the morning (8:15 AM - 10 AM) and evening hours (4 PM - 5:45 PM). Currently, all tours are reserved through June.

  • Metro Directions: Take the Orange Line to the Smithsonian stop. Exit at the Independence Avenue and 12th Street Exit. Walk two blocks west on Independence to 14th Street, SW or three blocks west on Independence to Raoul Wallenberg Place.
