Urgent, Time-Sensitive Information on Transportation Projects

This page was established as part of my effort of help you to respond to the time-sensitive correspondence which I faxed to you on February 4, 2003 about an important opportunity for your community to apply for federal funds for transportation projects such as highways, highway beautification, bridges, buses and bus equipment, passenger and freight facilities, and bicycle and pedestrian pathways.

APPLICATION MATERIALS

Click here for a copy of the letter I faxed to mayors, county commission chairs and selected city officials.

Click here to read and download a copy of the application form that must be completed and submitted, along with some supporting information, in order to be competitive in the hunt for funding of these "high priority" projects. Please answer the questionnaire as completely as possible (see below) and fax or e-mail it to my legislative Director, Bradley Edgell at Bradley.Edgell@mail.house.gov as soon as possible, but no later than noon on February 24, 2003. Then we can review the questionnaire and let you know what additional information we think will be needed. The committee requires that all 21 questions must be answered in order for your application to be submitted. If you do not have immediate responses for any of these 21 questions, simply fill in "I don't know" in order for your application to be considered.

RESOURCES TO PROVIDE IDEAS FOR POSSIBLE PROJECTS

There are no regulations that specifically describe the kinds of projects that should be eligible for funding. From conversations I have had with Committee members, I am left with the impression that funding is far more likely if the particular project is part of the local or state TIP, preferably both. But even that requirement is not cast in stone.

So I have included links to the materials below in order to give you some ideas. Please do not be overwhelmed by the volume and detail of these materials. They are provided to give you ideas. You do not need to review them in order to complete the questionnaire and submit a good project request.

Above all else, please remember that we are available to respond to any questions. Call me, my Legislative Director Bradley Edgell or my Chief of Staff John Kirincich at (202) 225-6531 for any assistance you may require.
