The President's Road to Ruin
For Immediate Release - May 5, 2005

Jim McDermott released the following statement reacting to the Bush administration's announcement of the repeal of the Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which was issued by the U.S. Forest Service in January 2001 to protect the last remaining wildlands in our national forest system.

"Today, the Bush Administration laid waste to protecting and restoring 58 million acres of forest land when it rolled back the Roadless Rule created under the Clinton Administration.

"Without a word of public comment, the Administration clear cut any semblance of forest management, protection and restoration across America.

"The President just paved a road to ruin right through America's forests."
