Rep. Jim McDermott (Wa-D) said today that he is gratified by the perfect 100% score he received from the League of Conservation Voters in their 2006 National Environmental Scorecard, just released.

"America can choose to end its addiction to oil, to protect the environment, especially in such pristine locations as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, ANWR; and, to pursue alternative energy policies that look to the future, not the past," McDermott said. "The scorecard defines the political and ideological divide between Members of Congress who see a future of energy and oil independence- as I do- or a future that mirrors the past.

"I believe in the future; I look to the future; and, I am gratified that my congressional voting record in the current Congress in support of the right energy and environmental policies has passed muster with such an important national environmental organization," McDermott said.

According to materials released by the League of Conservation Voters, the score was based on 12 votes in the House of Representatives, "on a range of issues, including energy, biodiversity, public health, environmental funding, and Army Corps of Engineers reform," according to the group's web site.

The organization says on its web site that the national average score for a Member of Congress was only 48%. In the House, McDermott was one of 93 Members to receive a 100% score, while there were 80 House Members who received 0%.
