McDermott Secures Federal Funding for Seattle Area Transit and Justice Programs
July 26, 2007
For Immediate Release
Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA) announced today that he successfully obtained federal funding for important local programs in the Science, Commerce, Justice, and State Appropriations bill that passed the House today. The King County Sheriff's Office will receive $300,000 for its Gang Prevention Initiative and King County Superior Court will receive $250,000 for technology related infrastructure and improvements.
McDermott also obtained over $1.2 million in the Transportation, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations legislation that passed the House last night. The funding includes $750,000 for the continued operation of the Vashon Island passenger-only ferry, $300,000 for King County to continue to purchase hybrid buses, and $150,000 for High Point Neighborhood House.
"These are good programs and services that deserve federal funding," McDermott said, "and will benefit the people of the 7th Congressional District by supporting mass transit, creating new housing opportunities for the disadvantaged and providing law enforcement with new resources for our police officers to do their jobs."
With passage in the House, both bills will await Senate passage of companion legislation and go to conference committee.
