October 1, 2007
For Immediate Release
Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA) presented a check for $1,000 to the Lifelong Aids Alliance at the beginning of the 21st Aids Walk over the weekend in Seattle. The congressman announced that a few months ago he had nominated the Lifelong Aids Alliance’s Chicken Soup Brigade for a Victory Against Hunger award, which is a national competition by the Congressional Hunger Center and Victory Wholesale Group.
Rep. McDermott told a large crowd assembled at Volunteer Park for the annual AIDS Walk that the Alliance’s Chicken Soup Brigade won one of only 20 awards made to organizations across the country and it included $1,000.
According to the Seattle congressman, the Brigade prepared and delivered 104,422 meals and 32,714 bags of groceries to over 1,000 people in King County last year and the award was in recognition of the life-saving and hope-inspiring work the organization does.
Rep. McDermott congratulated the Alliance for its work and the crowd for walking to show a commitment to fighting AIDS: “The sole of your shoes can be repaired, but the soul of your conviction will keep alive the hope that one day soon, we will find a way to eradicate the global scourge of HIV/AIDS,” McDermott said.
