Rep. McDermott Announces Healthcare Email and Draft Health Care Document
June 22, 2009
Rep. Jim McDermott today released a special email address so that constituents and others can directly send him and staff comments relating to health care reform. The email address is: mcdermotthealthcare@mail.house.gov.
In addition, McDermott, a senior Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, released a URL that will take people to the 900 page draft discussion document which represents the latest thinking by the three committees of jurisdiction in the U.S. House of Representatives: Ways and Means, Education and Labor, and Energy and Commerce. The URL is: http://waysandmeans.house.gov/media/pdf/111/HRdraft1xml.pdf.
“The issue of health care coverage is the single biggest domestic economic issue America faces and I want the American people to be deeply involved in the political process that is underway in Washington, D.C.,” McDermott said. “The link will let people read exactly what I and other Members of the House of Representatives are debating; in fact, there is a public hearing scheduled on Wednesday before the Ways and Means Committee concerning the proposal.”
McDermott also said he created a special healthcare email address to facilitate people sharing their ideas and opinions quickly. “The House Ways and Means Committee, where I serve, is one of the principal committees of jurisdiction; I’m at the table, so to speak, in a fast-moving debate on healthcare reform and this special email address will enable me to stay abreast of the latest comments and opinions from people who want to participate in the debate- and I hope that is everyone.”
