Rep. Jim McDermott helps launch Seattle’s new light rail system at a ribbon cutting and first day of service on Saturday, July 18.  The congressman, who supported federal funding requests to help build the system, held up a train ticket to much applause and talked about light rail’s role in a greater emphasis on public transit in Puget Sound which is vital to the region’s future.
