• Visiting Washington DC

Since September 11, 2001, many Washington, D.C. area attractions have implemented heightened security measures. Please be aware that tour schedules are subject to change without notice. Please contact my office at (202) 225-2731 for the latest information.

    White House

The White House is one of Washington, D.C.’s most sought after tours. My office is pleased to make a request for your group to tour. However, tours are available on a very limited basis and are determined by the White House staff.

Tours are scheduled Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. To qualify for a group tour, you must have a group of 10 or more people, and you should contact our office with your request at least 2 months in advance. During peak season (March – June), please contact our office at least 3-6 months in advance. Even with timely requests, please be aware that group tours are difficult to obtain.

In addition, the tour of the White House is a self-guided tour. However, tour officers are positioned throughout the White House to help answer questions and share interesting information. Occasionally, the White House determines it will be necessary to deviate from the regular tour schedule and reschedule or change the time of your tour.

If your tour is approved, please note that visitor access records to the White House Complex will be made publicly available 90-120 days after the date of visit. This policy includes all guests touring the White House. Please be aware that your full name and the date of your visit will be part of the publicly released records. Your date of birth, Social Security Number and all other information provided will not be released.

Furthermore, if the White House does not approve your tour, they do encourage groups to take advantage of the White House Visitor Center located at the southeast corner of 15th and E Streets NW in the U.S. Department of Commerce building. The Visitor Center is open seven days a week from 7:30 am until 4:00 pm and features many aspects of the White House. In addition, the National Park Service is able to provide your group with a variety of alternative experiences related to the White House including walks, films, and lectures. The National Park Service may be contacted at 202-208-1631.

    Capitol Building

If you are a resident of the Seventh Congressional District of North Carolina and are visiting Washington, D.C. please contact my office with any inquiries about tours of the U.S. Capitol.

The new Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) opened on December 3, 2008. The CVC is the newest addition to the U.S. Capitol and acts as the main entrance to the U.S. Capitol for visitors. The CVC is located below the East Plaza of the Capitol between Constitution and Independence Avenues. It is open to the public from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Saturday and is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Inauguration Day. The CVC includes several new features for guests to the Capitol including dining and gift shops, and Exhibition Hall which tells the story of Congress and the construction of the U.S. Capitol. For more information, visit the CVC website at www.visitthecapitol.gov .

All tours of the Capitol begin at the CVC and are available from 8:45 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. Tours of the Capitol are free, but passes are required. Visitors can book tickets in advance online at http://tours.visitthecapitol.gov or through the Office of Visitor Services by calling 202-226-8000. The House Gallery is also accessed through the CVC. It is open to visitors when the House is in session and is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday when the House is not in session. House Gallery passes can be obtained through Congressman McIntyre’s office. We welcome constituents to pick up Gallery Passes before their tour, or if you schedule your tour far enough in advance, we can arrange to have Gallery Passes mailed to your home. We encourage constituents to stop by and see the office while they are on Capitol Hill. Congressman McIntyre’s office is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located in office 2437 on the fourth floor of the Rayburn Building.

If you have any problems or questions about arranging a tour of the Capitol under the new reservation system, do not hesitate to contact the office.
