McNulty Sworn In to Ninth Term in Congress
(Washington, DC): -- Congressman Michael R. McNulty (D-Green
Island) pledged to continue his commitment to constituent service
as, for the ninth time, he took the Oath of Office today on the floor
of the U.S. House of Representatives as Member of Congress for the
21st Congressional District of New York State.
"I am grateful to the people of the 21st District who have again
entrusted me with a very important job – a job that I truly enjoy.
I am committed to providing assistance to my constituents who need
help breaking through the layers of the federal bureaucracy and to
securing federal dollars for projects in the Capital Region,"
McNulty said.
The 21st District includes all of Albany, Montgomery, Schenectady,
and Schoharie counties, and portions of Fulton, Rensselaer and Saratoga
counties. McNulty won re-election last November with more than 70%
of the vote, and again tallied more votes than any other Member of
the New York State congressional delegation, with more than 194,000
votes.
The congressman posted a 98% voting record in the 108th Congress (2003-04),
and has accumulated a 95% voting record over his 16-year House career.
McNulty will again serve on the powerful House Ways & Means Committee,
which deals with all federal tax and revenue measures. He is the Ranking
Democratic Member of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue
Measures. McNulty has also previously served on the House Armed Services
Committee, the House International Relations Committee, the House
Small Business Committee, and the former House Committee on Post Office
and Civil Service.
The Green Island native was first elected to public office in 1969
as the town's supervisor. After serving in that position for eight
years, McNulty was elected Mayor of the Village of Green Island in
1977. In 1982, he was elected to represent the 106th Assembly District
in the New York State Legislature. Succeeding longtime Democratic
Congressman Samuel Stratton, McNulty was elected in 1988 to represent
New York's 23rd Congressional District in the 101st Congress.
