McNulty: Fire Departments in Troy, Berne, and Schoharie
Set to Receive Federal Funds

(Albany, New York): -- Congressman Michael R. McNulty (D-Green Island) announced today that three fire departments in the Capital Region will receive federal funds under the 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The City of Troy Fire Department will receive a grant for $142,794; the Berne Volunteer Fire Company in Albany County will receive a $39,714 award; and the Schoharie Fire Department Niagara Engine Company #6 in Schoharie County will receive an award for $10,800.

"I am thrilled that the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program applications submitted by these departments have been approved," the congressman said. "The departments will use this funding to improve firefighting operations, upgrade existing equipment, and ensure the safety and well-being of their firefighters."

McNulty added, "First responders put their lives on the line -- day in and day out -- to ensure the safety and well being of citizens in our communities. I'm pleased that the Department of Homeland Security has again recognized the commitment of our local fire services. We should all take a moment to thank our firefighters and other first responders, and their families, for their sacrifice and service."
