(Washington, DC): -- Congressman Michael R. McNulty (D-Green Island) announced today that the Watervliet Fire Department in Albany County and the Mariaville Fire Department in Schenectady County will receive federal funds under the 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The City of Watervliet Fire Department will receive a grant for $218,331 for a firefighting vehicle, and the Mariaville Fire Department will receive a $31,487 award for firefighting operations and safety equipment.

McNulty said, "First responders put their lives on the line -- day in and day out -- to ensure the safety and well being of citizens in our communities. I'm pleased that the Department of Homeland Security has again recognized the commitment of our local fire services. We should all take a moment to thank our firefighters and other first responders, and their families, for their sacrifice and service."
