McNULTY: DOUBLE WIN FOR CAPITAL REGION

(Washington, DC): -- Congressman Mike McNulty (D-Green Island) today applauded the decision by the Pentagon to recommend that both the Samuel S. Stratton Air National Guard Base in Glenville and the Watervliet Arsenal remain open.

"The BRAC process is all about consolidation and re-alignment. Stratton won a consolidation competition with a California Navy base in the 1990's, and the Arsenal brought in private businesses to compliment it's government mission. The visionary thinking of officials at both facilities is what saved them," McNulty said.

While the BRAC process will not conclude until the fall, the Pentagon recommendation all but assures continued operations at both facilities.

McNulty noted, “I am especially happy for the 2,300 employees of Stratton and the Arsenal – and their families. I salute their outstanding service to our country."
