McNULTY ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR WASTEWATER SYSTEM IN BERNE

$500K Grant, $100K Loan, Will Be Used for New Treatment Facility

(Washington, DC): -- Congressman Michael R. McNulty (D-Green Island) today received notification from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development office of the approval of a $500,000 grant and $100,000 low-interest loan to the Town of Berne in Albany County, which currently lacks a wastewater system, for the construction of a new water treatment facility.

McNulty said, “This funding will help correct the sewage problems that have plagued the hamlet of Berne for years. The new wastewater system will help provide relief to residents with failing septic systems, improve drinking water, prevent pollution from entering streams, and allow businesses to return to the area. I commend Berne Town Supervisor, Kevin Crosier, and officials at USDA Rural Development, for their hard work to improve the environment and the health of the town's residents.”

"I am pleased to provide this funding for the Town of Berne's new wastewater treatment system," said Scott R. Collins, Acting State Director for USDA Rural Development in New York. "Developing community infrastructure is essential to enhancing the quality of life in rural New York. I commend Berne's residents and leaders for their commitment to their community's health and well-being."

Kevin Crosier, Berne Town Supervisor, said, "This project will help clean up wastewater and the environment, which is a 'win-win' deal for everybody. I want to express my thanks to the New York State USDA Rural Development office, particularly David Miller and former Director Patrick Brennan, who worked with the Town throughout the whole process."

Approximately 100 users are expected to be able to hookup to the new wastewater system.
