LOCAL TRANSPORTATION & HOUSING PROJECTS CLEAR INITIAL HURDLE FOR FEDERAL FUNDING

(Washington, DC): -- Congressman Michael R. McNulty (D-Green Island) announced that the Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 Appropriations bill for the Departments of Transportation, Treasury, and Housing & Urban Development (HUD), approved by the House of Representatives this evening, includes funding for five important Capital Region projects.

McNulty said, “I am very pleased to report that the House version of the bill includes funding for the Port of Albany, the University at Albany, the USS Slater, WAMC Northeast Public Radio, and Unity House in Troy. I will continue to work hard in support of these projects to ensure that they are all included in the final version of the bill when it is signed into law later this year.”

After the U.S. Senate passes its own version of the FY 2007 Transportation, Treasury, and HUD Appropriations bill, a joint House-Senate conference committee will iron out a final draft to be reviewed and passed by members of both chambers, then sent to the President to be signed into law.

The Capital Region projects included in the House version of the bill, and their proposed funding levels, are:

  • $500,000 to WAMC Northeast Public Radio for facilities expansion and rehabilitation;

  • $200,000 to Unity House in Troy for needed facility renovations;

  • $100,000 to the Port of Albany for security and operational improvements;

  • $100,000 to the University at Albany for expansion of its fiber optic network; and

  • $100,000 for preservation and renovation efforts on the U.S.S. Slater.
