THOMAS CORNERS FIRE DEPARTMENT GETS (Washington, DC): Congressman McNulty announced today that the Thomas Corners Fire Department will receive $53,157 in federal funds from the 2006 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The funding will be used to purchase new personal protective equipment for five new recruit firefighters. Additional funding will be used to purchase a new Thermal Imager Camera, additional radios, air bottles, a gas meter, several power tools and numerous small firefighting hand tools to enhance the department’s operational and safety capabilities. Chief Gregg Petricca stated, “The purchase of this equipment would not be possible without this grant. This grant is truly a lifesaver in keeping all our firefighters safe in new, compliant gear. The grant application workshops, sponsored by Congressman McNulty, were very informative and provided a valuable insight into what it takes to write a successful grant.” McNulty said, "The training and equipment provided to our first responders through the Fire Grant program are critical in securing the safety of our communities. I'm pleased that the Department of Homeland Security has recognized the commitment of our local fire services by providing the funding necessary to upgrade existing equipment, improve firefighting operations, and ensure the safety and well-being of our firefighters.” "First responders put their lives on the line -- day in and day out -- to ensure the safety and well being of citizens in our communities. We should all take a moment to thank our firefighters and other first responders, and their families, for their sacrifice and service," McNulty said. Congressman McNulty and the Department of Homeland Security will be hosting a 2007 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Workshop this Monday, March 5, 2007. Two sessions will be offered, one at 2pm and one at 6pm at the following address: Carman Fire Department
