LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT TO RECEIVE FEDERAL FUNDING (Washington, DC): Congressman Michael R. McNulty (D-Green Island) announced today that the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department located in Sprakers is in receipt of a loan of $131,000 and a grant of $25,000 for the purchase of a new 2007 Pumper/ Tanker Truck. "I am thrilled that the application submitted by the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department has been approved. Firefighters put their lives on the line -- day in and day out -- to ensure the safety and well being of the citizens of our communities. With the help of this well deserved funding, the department will be able to better serve and protect the rural community," said McNulty. This loan and grant was awarded under the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Rural Development Program whose mission is to help rural individuals, communities and businesses obtain the financial and technical assistance needed to address their diverse and unique needs. "Helping New York's rural communities acquire the equipment they need to protect life and property is an important part of President Bush's First Responder Initiative and USDA Rural Development is proud to support this effort," said Patrick H. Brennan, State Director for USDA Rural Development in New York. "Rural Grove's new truck will improve response times and result in better fire protection for area residents." Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Jeffrey R. Kaczor said, "On behalf of myself, Chief Booth, the officers, the board of directors, and the members of the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department we appreciate everything the USDA has done for us. The new Pumper/Tanker truck that we will be receiving will greatly enhance the ability for us to protect of the citizens of our community. I would particularly like to thank Pat Snover at the USDA, whose help was essential throughout this entire process."
