ALBANY AND SCHOHARIE AMONG NEW COUNTIES ELIGIBLE FOR DISASTER RELIEF

(Washington, DC): Congressman Michael R. McNulty (D-Green Island) announced today that the Major Disaster Declaration for the State of New York was amended to include Albany County within the Federal Emergency Managements Agency's (FEMA) Individual Assistance (IA) program, and Albany and Schoharie County within FEMA's Public Assistance (PA) program.

President Bush originally declared a major disaster for the State of New York on April 24, 2007, triggering the release of federal funds to help people recover from the severe storms and inland and coastal flooding that occurred April 14-18, 2007.

"The recent storms have had a devastating impact on families and communities in the Capitol District. I am happy that funding will be made available for those who have suffered, and I hope that they will be able to rebuild and return quickly to their everyday lives," said McNulty.

Individual assistance is available to individuals and households that sustained damage due to these severe storms. Those who believe they are eligible should contact the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) teleregistration number at 800-621-3362.

Public assistance is available for state and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities. Those potentially eligible for public assistance will be contacted by their County Emergency Management Agency and invited to attend an Applicant Briefing to inform them of the assistance available and how to apply for it.
