McNULTY PRAISES SPITZER; CHALLENGES PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS
(Washington, D.C.): -- Congressman Michael R. McNulty (D-Green Island) made the following statement following Governor Spitzer's announcement this morning: The decision announced today by Governor Eliot Spitzer should be a wake-up call which spurs action by the federal government to enact comprehensive immigration reform. I applaud the Governor for attempting to deal with an issue which our national leaders -- of both parties -- have ignored for far too long. Hopefully, we'll get the message and take action. Meanwhile, the Governor's decision means that our home state of New York can return to addressing other pressing issues. Chief among them, in my view, is the revitalization of the upstate economy. The Spitzer administration has brought thousands of new jobs to upstate New York this year -- hundreds of which are located in my Congressional District. I look forward to continuing to work with the Governor on a wide range of issues involving education, health care, transportation, environmental protection, and further economic development.
