Expanding the National Gallery of Art
Millions of visitors to Washington, DC pass through the National Gallery of Art, which is located on the National Mall, each year.  Its two buildings hold some of the most historic and recognizable works from the world's greatest artists.

Given the scarcity of available land on the National Mall, and the need for additional museum space to house our nation's artistic treasures, it is necessary to look into using existing buildings for this expansion.  The Federal Trade Commission building was built in 1938 and is ideal to display many more great works of art.

The FTC Building is located on Pennsylvania Avenue adjacent to the existing National Gallery buildings.  Converting this space into an additional museum site would allow more visitors to our nation's capital the opportunity to explore this building.

Rep. Mica has introduced legislation (HR 31) in the 109th Congress that would remove the Federal Trade Commission from its current offices and allow the National Gallery of Art to create exhibit space in the building.
